Wiltoniensis comitatus seu Wiltonia[1] (vulgo Wiltshire et brevius Wilts) est comitatus geographicus et traditionalis Angliae quae ad meridionalem et occidentalem partem spectat. Sedes gubernii huius comitatus est oppidum Trowbridge; pagos finitimos habet ad occidentalem partem Somersetiam et Glocestriam, Oxonium septentrione versum, oriente Berceriam, sed meridiem spectantes Hantoniam et Dorcestriam.
Comitatus iam anno 802 exstitit, pars regni Wessexiae; Weohstan enim ealdorman mid Wilsætum (scil. "dux cum Wilaviensibus") eo anno, exercitu Hwicciorum irrumpente et iuxta Kempsford debellato, in ipso proelio interfectus est.[2] Saeculo IX exeunte nomina huius comitatus "Wiltunscira" et "Wiltunensis pagus" reperiuntur apud Asserium regis Alfredi biographum;[3] quo tempore quattuor burgi in hac regione recogniti sunt, Wiltonia, Chisbury, Malmesburia, Cricklade.[4] Comitatus appellationem habet e flumine Wilavia, Anglice Wylye (Wilsætan enim Anglosaxonice sonat "qui vallem Wilaviae incolunt") et mox e Wiltonia oppido olim praeclaro qui ad ripas huius fluminis stat (Wiltūnscīre sonat "Wiltoniae comitatus"). Etiam hodie inter comitatus sollemnes Angliae enumeratur. Comitatus administrativus Wiltoniensis territorium paullo restrictum reclamat; pagus enim burgi Swindon e boreorientali parte comitatus separatus est una cum suburbiis (inter quae Highworth).
Wiltonia iam fere oblita, comitatus Wiltoniensis urbem praeclarissimam Sarisberiam continet; cui adiunguntur oppida potiora Bradford on Avon, Calne, Chippenham, Divisae, Malmesburia, Melksham, Merlebrigia, Trowbridge, Warminster, Westbury, modestiora autem Aldbourne, Amesbury, Castle Combe, Chicklade, Chitterne, Corsham Regis, Downton, Great Bedwyn, Lacock, Lavington Episcopi et Market Lavington, Ludgershall, Lyneham, Mere, Mildenhall, Minety, Pewsey, Ramsbury (olim sedes episcopalis), Sherston Magna, Tidworth, Tilshead, Tisbury, Upavon et Wootton Bassett.
Situs antiquitatis hic reperiuntur Stonehenge et Avebury. Locus huius comitatús excelsissimus est Milk Hill.
